The Verona Arena, as you’ve never heard it before

The Verona Arena, as you’ve never heard it before
10th March 2014 Cities and Memory

verona4Today’s sounds are from beautiful Verona, Italy – inside the Roman amphitheatre that is the Arena. Former home to all sorts of gladiatorial action, the Arena still stages everything from opera to stadium rock now and is amazingly well-preserved. On a quiet, wet January day, though, there are only a few dozen people looking around, which means footsteps and voices are amplified by the natural reverb within an empty arena of this size. For the remixed version I wanted to take this central feeling of being in a vast, reverb-filled space and play with that, taking the reverb and making something overwhelming from it.
