Remixing the RNLI
One of the sounds that inspired the beginnings of this project in the first place. My band Listing Ships recorded a 12″ at the RNLI lifeboat station at Hayling Island. As part of the process, we took a lot of field recordings from inside and around the station, and I created a collage of samples called ‘Nutcracker Six’, which went onto the record. It’s presented again here, as a collage of field recordings, including of course the original here. By far the most interesting sounds from the station were the lifeboat station’s radio, which would crackle into life with distress calls, callsigns, updates and communications across the south coast of the UK.
