World-class competitive sport in Spitalfields Market
A recent field recording trip to London took me to Spitalfields market, usually a bustling hub of shoppers, tourists and locals, and a fertile ground for interesting sounds. However, on a weekday afternoon pouring with rain, it was cavernously empty, a big reverby space with very little of sonic interest. Fortunately for me, this is East London hipster central, so someone had kindly set up a ping pong table, and a group of blokes were pinging away, taking it all quite seriously and making for an interesting field recording.
For the remix, anyone who’s heard Bucephalus Bouncing Ball by Aphex Twin will know where it’s coming from with the ping pong beats I’ve tried to set in motion here.
