Making music with the sounds of construction

McGill_ConstructionWe’re off to Montreal today, for our first sound from Canada (excitingly, there are a few more in the pipeline, coming soon). This was submitted by Canadian sound artist Eric Powell, who recorded the sound of construction vehicles on the campus of McGill University, and turned it into an excellent extended ambient piece.

Writing about his recording and remix, he said: “The original source is a pair of construction vehicles reversing – moving away from each other, creating an interesting Doppler shift. In the remixed version I play with this acoustic phenomenon – pitch-shifting and looping these two vehicles to create melodic permutations and dense textural sections.”
