10.30 am – Hamburg meets Birmingham in a priest’s sermon
Staying inside St. Michaelis, Birmingham’s Matt Parker took a very different and fascinating approach to the remix, bringing in sounds from a church in his hometown to blend with those of Hamburg, in effect bringing the two places into one, as he says ‘creating a giant feedback loop’ between the two cities. Here he explains what he did:
“I have decided to make a very abstracted remix that plays with the huge reverb within St Michaelis. I convolved the recording with an impulse response taken at St Mary’s Church Moseley, Birmingham and then experimented with the result. Essentially, I’ve created a giant feedback loop between Hamburg and Birmingham then tried to manage it into something interesting. There’s a bit of transient splicing in there for good measure too.”
