Cities and Memory – first live performance

SoO poster final A3The first ever Cities and Memory live performance takes place in Oxford on Sunday 7 December. Entitled ‘Cities and Memory vs. Oxford Improvisers’, it will be a live, hour-long reimagining of sounds from around the world as we collaborate with an open group of improvisers.

Over the course of an hour, Cities and Memory will play a live set of field recordings from our archives, over which the Oxford Improvisers group will perform, responding to and playing with the field recordings in real time. Their musical responses will determine how the set of field recordings play out, so field recordings and the external world effectively become another instrument in an hour-long improvisation.

For those of you near Oxford, the show is completely free and is part of the Sound Oxford event in association with Contemporary Arts Research Unit and Oxford Brookes University. It takes place at around 3pm on Sunday 7 December at the East Oxford Community Centre, with lots more interesting sonic performances running through until 9.00pm. Full details can be found here.
