An infinite new year
New Year’s Eve, Turin, Italy. The sound of fireworks erupts across the city as the freezing night air lights up in celebration. These sounds are taken at exactly midnight from the fourth floor of a hotel room in Turin as the city saw in the new year.
For the reimagined sound, I’ve started with the idea of infinite New Year’s Eve celebrations, taking that one ephemeral moment of ‘buon anno!’ that passes in the blink of an eye, and extending it into an entire night, the party that goes on forever.
The original recording is sliced into even smaller parts, which are then stretched to incredible lengths and layered on top of one another. Adding in some self-generating bass frequencies and light effects brings into being a twenty-minute ambient meditation on New Year’s Eve celebrations.
