The sound of a city going stir crazy
The final stop on our Oblique Strategy tour of the world comes in New Haven, Connecticut, courtesy of local artist Nate Trier, who was responding to the Oblique Strategy cards Idiot glee and Try faking it.
Nate explains: “This piece documents the sounds of a city that was going slightly stir crazy after a too-long winter.”
“The card “Idiot Glee” told me to prioritize the sound of giggly teenagers just let out of school as well as a young man who was clowning for the crowd by loudly, exuberantly greeting his friend across the street.”
“The card “Try Faking It” prompted me to trust my instincts as I put edited these sounds into a piece, as well as cobbling together a house beat from the sounds of bus brakes, wind noise, and a skateboarder who was practicing his moves in close proximity to the recorder.”
