New Year’s Eve, outside Palazzo Carignano, Turin. A brass band performs Christmas tunes and other staples, accompanied by a drummer, busking in the square in front of the Palazzo in the freezing cold.
During the field recording, we do a lap around the band, so you can hear the sounds moving around the stereo field.
Emil Brahe, a sound artist from Aarhus in Denmark, has taken the sound of the brass band to an entirely darker level, producing a nightmarish vision of how the band might have sounded if you’d be unfortunate enough to encounter them after a mind-altering quantity of drugs. Nightmarish stuff.
