Electronic Piazza, Catania
Catania, Sicily. A warm September morning sitting at a cafe in the city’s famous Piazza Duomo.
An ambulance roars past, interrupting the morning peace. A man approaches our cafe table to ask for money.
The bells of the Duomo begin to chime, and ring out eleven times for the turning of the hour.
A short reimagined sound adds an arpeggiated bed of synths under the field recording, with the ambulance siren, drenched in reverb, reversed and then un-reversed, coming back time and again to make its mark on what is otherwise a peaceful, contemplative scene.
