Cities and Memory is part of Metaphonics: The Complete Field Works Recordings

We’re delighted to announce that Cities and Memory is part of the incredible Metaphonics release on one of our favourite record labels, Temporary Residence.

The release is an incredible anthology of music and sounds based on the field recordings of Stuart Hyatt, comprising seven LPs and an accompanying book, and featuring musicians including Eluvium, Dan Deacon, The Field, Loscil, Matmos and Gazelle Twin.

We’ve contributed an essay entitled The Noise Made By People: Anthrophony, Cities and Memory to the accompanying book, which examines the impact of human-generated sound on our environment, how it can be improved and the role that art and creativity can play in this.

Curated and designed by PRINTtEXT, the book features original essays based on the Field Works collection of music and inspired by naturalist Bernie Krause’s taxonomy of soundscapes.

We’re really excited to be part of this essential sonic collection – it’s available to preorder now, with a launch date of 21 September.
