The sounds of the Trevi Fountain, Rome

The Trevi Fountain in Rome is certainly the best-known fountain in the world, and possibly one of the planet’s most famous tourist attractions – we all know what it looks like, but what does it sound like?

As most visitors know, the Trevi is surrounded by (literally) thousands of tourists at almost any time of the day – it’s a veritable Tower of Babel, a chaotic mess of languages, shouting and tourism, and somewhere in the background is the sight and sound of a truly stunning work of art. Here we have a recording of the sounds of that scene, and a Morricone-inspired reimagined version by Ian Dean.
