At the Church of Christ the Saviour, Moscow

Come with us to Moscow on a bright, chilly afternoon. Stand by the banks of the River Moskva, under the shadow of the colossal Church of Christ the Saviour.

Hear the eerie, disembodied automated announcements coming from the ticket booth for the river cruises, accompanied by fake birdsong and ship’s bells.

City version:

The reimagined piece is a soundscape attempting to depict the frozen chill of a windswept River Moskva in winter.

The riverboat announcements take on a sinister, almost propaganda-ish edge when buried under heavy distortion and minor chords, with strings and brass coming together to add to the chill factor.

“In a snow-white field near Moscow, I want you above all to hear how sad my living voice is.”
