A quiet moment by the river in Yellowstone

A beautiful sound from Yellowstone National Park for you to enjoy today, as an American dipper sings along with some honking Canada geese in a quiet moment along the Firehole River.

City version:

The reimagined sound is a beautiful piece that reflects the serenity of the original recording, by Stefanie Merchak:

“Birds singing give me a sense of calm and tranquillity.

“I wanted to create a piece that translated this as well as a feeling of communion with nature.I did that in Ableton Live.

“I created a background pad using the original recording that I time-stretched and transposed then processed with chorus, a couple of resonators, delay and reverb.

“I added to that a few sparse notes played on glockenspiel, marimba, bowed vibraphone and wind bells instruments, all of which went through delay and reverb to create a lush sound.

“You can also hear the original recording of the dipper and geese, processed with delay and reverb here and there throughout the piece.”
