A soundscape from the liminal airport space today, as we visit Boston Logan.

In this field recording, as you arrive into Terminal E down the moving walkways, announcements about Boston’s civic pride are piped down to accompany your first experience of the city, as mayor Michelle Wu proudly extols the virtues of “the city of champions and the birthplace of revolutionary ideals.. where people come to do good in the world”.

Her speech is cut short by the clatter of suitcases, trolleys and arriving travellers.

City version:

For this remarkable reimagined composition, Thomas Martin Nutt has blended the original field recording ith instrumentation, and excerpts of Susan Howe reading Barbara Guest’s Seeking Air, recorded at the Ear Inn, January 25, 1986.
