Some great news to kick off 2025 – I’m incredibly proud to say that more than TWO THOUSAND artists have now taken part in Cities and Memory!

I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s contributed a composition or a recording to the project, and a special thank you to those artists who have been following the project for many years.

Two thousand is a number so large that it’s really hard to comprehend – but not only has Cities and Memory become one of the world’s biggest sound projects by numbers alone, it’s the sense of community that’s built up naturally between artists and recordists around the world that’s most special to me, and which I’m really keen to keep building with your help.

I couldn’t have imagined the project would capture imaginations the way it seems to have done, and whether you’ve submitted a field recording from your travels or your home, or composed for one of our sound projects, I’m enormously grateful to every single person who’s responded so positively to the idea.

Cities and Memory would simply not exist without you, and it’s been a real privilege to hear your stories of how the project has sparked new connections or helped you find new avenues for your creativity.

It’s also been incredible to travel to cities around the world and meet up with contributing artists face-to-face and build new friendships that all started with one field recording made under a bridge in Oxford many years ago.

As we head into the TENTH (!) year of Cities and Memory, I’ve got some big plans for the year ahead, and hope you can join me on the journey. Thank you for listening – and for taking part. Stuart.
