We have an exciting update for you today – after more than a year in development, we have a brand new sound player on Cities and Memory that allows you explore our full database of more than 7,000 sounds in lots of new ways.
If you’ve contributed a recording or composition to the project, you can search by your artist name, and you can also search by country, city or any title keyword (e.g. “metro” or “park” for instance).
You can also select all the sounds from individual global sound projects with one click. The sounds are all displayed with the field recording on top, followed by the reimagined composition.
Here’s a short video clip showing how it works:
This is a new, simple and much more comprehensive way to explore the sounds in Cities and Memory, and if you find a particular artist whose work you’re enjoying, it’s now easy to listen to all of their contributions at once.
(Just to note, if you’re searching for a composing artist name, the title that comes up will be the original field recording, not the composer name – you’ll need to click on the entry to see that.)
Alongside this, we’ve also slightly redesigned and simplified the homepage, and added a new FAQs page.
We’d love to hear any feedback on the player, so please do drop us a line with any thoughts or questions.
Huge thanks to Tim Waterfield for developing the new player.
